Google's new smartphone will bring, in addition to the numerous improvements to its general characteristics, unrivaled location accuracy on Android.
The device
The Nexus 5 , made by LG for Google , sports a 4.95" HD display from 1920×1080 Pixels, or a density of 445 pixels per inch. It is the first smartphone with the latest Android operating system 4.4 (KitKat). Qualcomm supplies it with most of its electronic components : The quad-core processor clocked at 2,26 Ghz Snapdragon 800 Ploughshare, Transceiver WTR1605L LTE/HSPA+/CDMA2K/TDSCDMA/EDGE which integrates the GPS receiver. Unlike the Nexus 4, The Nexus 5 Fully utilizes the capabilities of the integrated components, including 4G LTE.
Le GPS
The Qualcomm WTR1605L transceiver chip is the same one used by Apple in the iPhone 5C and 5S. The location service is therefore a WiFi/Cellular/GPS combo. This processor supports, in addition to the American systems GPS (24 Satellites) and Russian GLONASS (24 Satellites), The new Chinese constellation Beidou-2 with its 16 operational satellites now covering the Asia/Australia/Western Pacific area. This leads to 64 GPS coverage for this area (¹) and provides the Nexus with 5 One of the best positioning qualities on the market.
